Empowering Women Through Enterprise: Launch of Our Cottage Mat Production Industry

The Khalifah and Rukkaiya Foundation for the Aged and Senior Citizens’ Welfare is proud to announce the launch of its Cottage Production Industry, a transformative initiative designed to empower rural women through sustainable employment and economic opportunity.

This new program focuses on the production of high-quality, handwoven mats for both local use and international export. Rooted in cultural craftsmanship and powered by community resilience, the initiative provides a platform for rural women to gain income, skills, and independence—while preserving traditional weaving techniques.

🎯 Our Objectives:

  • Create Jobs for Rural Women
By training and engaging local women in mat weaving, we are opening new economic doors and reducing financial dependency in underserved communities.

  • Promote Export-Ready, Made-in-Nigeria Products
We are tapping into the global market with beautifully handcrafted mats that reflect the heritage and artistry of our people.

  • Support Community Development
Proceeds from the project are reinvested into the welfare of senior citizens and other community-driven programs by the Foundation.

📍Impact at a Glance:

  • Dozens of women already trained and employed

  • Eco-friendly production methods

  • Growing network of buyers, including interest from international home décor and cultural retailers

This cottage industry is more than just a production line—it is a movement. A movement that uplifts women, preserves culture, and promotes grassroots economic growth.

We invite partners, corporate buyers, donors, and NGOs to join us in scaling this impact. Together, we can create a future where rural women thrive—and every mat we export carries a story of dignity, skill, and hope.

Community Health Outreach: Free Medical Check-Up & Drug Distribution for the Elderly

As part of our continued commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, the Khalifah and Rukkaiya Foundation for the Aged and Senior Citizens’ Welfare recently held a comprehensive Health Outreach Program, aimed at improving the well-being of the elderly within our care network.

The outreach provided free health screenings, diagnoses, and prescribed medication to dozens of elderly individuals—many of whom lack regular access to quality healthcare.

🧑‍⚕️ Services Offered:

  • ✅ Full Vital Signs Assessment (Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Temperature, BMI)

  • ✅ Medical Consultations by Licensed Health Professionals

  • ✅ Diagnosis of Common Age-Related Conditions

  • ✅ Distribution of Free Prescribed Medication

This initiative not only addressed urgent health concerns but also helped in early detection of chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis, enabling timely intervention and care planning.

The Khalifah and Rukkaiya Foundation recognizes the urgent need for secure, temporary shelters for individuals and families displaced by natural disasters (such as floods), insurgency, and gender-based violence. Displacement strips victims of safety, dignity, and stability, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation, trauma, and further harm.

The Safe Haven Shelter Initiative seeks to establish temporary but well-structured shelters across high-risk communities in Nigeria. These shelters will provide protection, food, healthcare, psychosocial support, and rehabilitation services to victims while preparing them for reintegration into safe and sustainable living environments.

Project Goal

To provide temporary, safe, and supportive shelters for victims of disasters, conflict, and gender-based violence, ensuring dignity, recovery, and pathways to resilience.

Objectives

  1. Emergency Shelter Provision: Construct and equip temporary shelters in vulnerable communities to house displaced persons.

  2. Protection & Safety: Offer a secure environment for survivors, particularly women, children, and the elderly.

  3. Basic Needs Support: Provide access to food, clean water, sanitation, clothing, and essential health services.

  4. Psychosocial Support: Deliver trauma counseling, mental health care, and community healing programs.

  5. Livelihood Support: Introduce skills training and livelihood activities to empower victims for recovery.

  6. Advocacy & Awareness: Strengthen collaboration with government, NGOs, and community stakeholders to ensure sustained protection and support.
